Through the Bible – Message 21

Proverbs
The Book of Proverbs teaches us how a genuine devotional life with God is to be expressed in the practical details of everyday living. True wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord—a reverence for God that leads us to know Him personally—and is developed as we depend upon the Holy Spirit rather than leaning upon our own understanding. Throughout Proverbs, God’s wisdom reaches into every area of life: our words, relationships, work, finances, purity, marriage, parenting, generosity, humility, integrity, self-control, and treatment of others. We are called to guard our hearts, seek God’s guidance, receive correction, work diligently, speak wisely, care for the poor, walk humbly, and allow the character of Christ to be increasingly manifested in us. Wisdom, therefore, is not merely knowledge; it is godly character lived out in the ordinary circumstances of life.
