Ecclesiastes

The book of Ecclesiastes presents a sobering picture of the limitations of human wisdom apart from divine revelation. Through Solomon—the wisest man of his generation—we see that intelligence, knowledge, achievement, pleasure, wealth, and careful observation of life cannot bring a person into the true knowledge of God. In contrast to Proverbs, which reflects divine wisdom, Ecclesiastes shows the mixture of truth and error that results when man attempts to understand life through human reasoning alone. True spiritual understanding requires humility, a teachable heart, submission to God’s Word, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit. This study challenges us not merely to possess correct doctrine or Bible knowledge, but to live what we know, seek the knowledge of God Himself, and allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Christ to our hearts.

1 John 5:20

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
