That We May Know Him

Who is True

Through the Bible – Message 39

Luke-1

In this study of the opening chapters of the Gospel of Luke, Zac Poonen draws attention to Jesus Christ as the perfect Man and our example for life and service. From John the Baptist, Mary, Elizabeth, Zacharias, Simeon, and Anna to the baptism and temptation of Jesus, Luke repeatedly emphasizes the person, presence, and power of the Holy Spirit. We see that genuine spiritual power is not given for self-exaltation but for serving others; that God looks for humble people who seek Him, know His Word, and are willing to obey Him regardless of reproach; and that Jesus Himself lived with an unwavering passion for His Father’s business. His humility took Him beneath others in service, His knowledge of Scripture equipped Him to resist temptation, His prayer life kept Him in fellowship with the Father, and His anointing was used to bring good to others. The message challenges us not merely to accumulate Bible knowledge or seek spiritual experiences, but to know God through His Word, be filled with the Holy Spirit, overcome temptation, serve others humbly, and finish the work the Father has given us to do.

1 John 5:20

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
