Zephaniah, Haggai

In this installment of Through the Bible, Zephaniah and Haggai confront us with both the seriousness of sin and God’s goodness toward those who faithfully follow Him. Zephaniah warns of the Day of the Lord, exposes spiritual decline and superficial revival, and points to a humble remnant who trust in the Lord and over whom God rejoices. Haggai turns our attention to our priorities with the searching call to “consider your ways,” challenging God’s people to put His interests before their own, respond obediently to His Word, pursue holiness, complete the work He has given them, trust Him for their needs, and seek His honor rather than man’s. Together, these two prophets call God’s people away from compromise and self-centered living into humility, obedience, faithfulness, and wholehearted devotion to the Lord.
