The Glory of the New Covenant Message 7

7. The New-Covenant Sabbath
This study examines the New Covenant meaning of the Sabbath as presented in Hebrews 4. Unlike the Old Covenant Sabbath, which emphasized ceasing from physical labor, the New Covenant Sabbath points to a life of resting in God’s work of sanctification. Using examples from Genesis, Exodus, and Hebrews, the message explains that holiness is not achieved through self-effort, legalistic rule-keeping, or religious striving, but through fellowship with God and participation in His divine nature. Just as Adam’s first day was a day of rest and fellowship with God before any work began, believers are called to worship, trust, and abide in Christ before serving Him. The true Sabbath rest is entering into God’s work within us, allowing Him to transform our lives by His Spirit and make us holy according to His purpose.
