Judges & Ruth

The Book of Judges presents a sobering picture of Israel’s repeated cycle of compromise, oppression, repentance, and deliverance, revealing that spiritual decline always follows when God’s people no longer truly know Him. Throughout the lives of Othniel, Ehud, Deborah, Gideon, Samson, and the other judges, one truth becomes unmistakable: God’s work advances through men and women who are yielded to His Spirit rather than relying on human strength or religious tradition. In striking contrast, the Book of Ruth provides a beautiful portrait of unwavering faith, humility, and obedience. Though Ruth came from a pagan background, her wholehearted commitment to the Lord led her into the lineage of King David and ultimately Jesus Christ. Together, these two books remind believers that God honors those who seek Him with sincere hearts and warns against the spiritual dangers of compromise, self-reliance, and doing “what is right in one’s own eyes.”

1 John 5:20

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
