Through the Bible – Message 13

1 Kings
The book of 1 Kings begins with Israel united under David and ends with a divided kingdom under increasingly ungodly leadership, revealing the tremendous influence spiritual leaders can have upon God’s people. Through the lives of David, Solomon, Rehoboam, Jeroboam, Elijah, Ahab, and others, this study presents powerful warnings and encouragements concerning forgiveness, discernment, obedience, humility, prayer, marriage, compromise, and wholehearted devotion to God. Solomon demonstrates that extraordinary wisdom and spiritual privilege cannot substitute for a heart that remains faithful to God, while Elijah shows what God can accomplish through an ordinary person who lives before His face, obeys His voice, trusts His provision, and perseveres in prayer. Throughout 1 Kings, we are challenged not merely to possess biblical knowledge, but to know God personally, heed His warnings, walk with a clear conscience, and become the godly men and women He can use in our generation.
