Who Was Lucifer? (Part 2)
How Did He Become Satan?
Isaiah 14:13-14
“You said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God
I will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north;
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.'”
“I will be like (or equal to) the Most High,” plainly shows us that equality with his Creator was his objective. Nay, more than this—he would hurl God from His throne and take His place. No wonder, then, that those solemn words rang through the universe—” Thou hast sinned.” Never had those words been uttered before, for this was the origin of sin, and in Lucifer, we behold the first sinner.” “God’s Plan of Redemption” by Mary E. McDonough
“When Satan said “I will” to God, setting his creaturely will in opposition to that of his Creator, he broke the unwritten law that in God’s universe there can be but one will and that the will of the Maker of all things. Lawlessness then became a fact in the celestial realm.” “Life on the Highest Plane” by Ruth Paxson
We are told in Revelation 12:4 that one-third of the angels joined Satan in his rebellion against God. Satan will use these fallen angels to organize a kingdom of darkness. As a result, this rebellion brought God’s judgment, and the earth became without form.
Revelation 12:4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth.
Genesis 1:1-2
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
There is a difference between the “earth” in verse one and the “earth” in verse 2. The earth’s condition in verse 2 was not its condition as God originally created it, but it became this way because of God’s judgment.
Isaiah 45:18
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the Lord, and there is no other.
Isaiah 28:16
By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
Jesus described the fall In Luke 10:18
Luke 10:18
And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Revelation 12:9-10 refers to Satan and his angels’ second and final casting out of heaven. Satan still has access to the throne in heaven. We can see this from the story in the book of Job. Today he stands as the accuser of the brothers before God day and night. But this time, his place will no longer be found there.
Revelation 12:9-10
9“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: and he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.
Lucifer, the anointed cherub, who God placed on His holy mountain, became Satan, the enemy of God.
Lord, we acknowledge that You alone are the sovereign One in the universe!
In Him,
Marion
