Who Was Lucifer?
Humans were not the first beings created by God. In 1 Corinthians 15:40, two bodies are mentioned, celestial (heavenly) and terrestrial (earthly). In eternity past, God created the celestial bodies first, then the terrestrial.
1 Corinthians 15:40
There are also celestial bodies and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
In Isaiah 14:12, God calls one of the celestial beings “Lucifer.”
In Isaiah 14:12, God calls one of the celestial beings “Lucifer.”
Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Ezekiel 26:1-6 talks about a king who exalts himself to the point of making himself a god.
Later in Ezekiel 28:12-19, God considers this king of Tyre a type of Satan.
According to the prophecy in Ezekiel 28:12-19
12 “Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord GOD: “You were the signet of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared. 14 You were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you. 16 In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. 18 By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you. 19 All who know you among the peoples are appalled at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever.”
“The passage in Ezekiel 28:11-19 reveals the truth regarding the person and position of Satan originally. It states that Satan was a created being and that he was created perfect. He was “full of wisdom,” “perfect in beauty,” “perfect in thy ways,” “the sum of perfection was found in him.”
Not only was he perfect as regards his person, but he held a very exalted position in the service of God. He was “the anointed cherub that covereth” and served “in the holy mountain of God.” Perhaps no other created being held so exalted a position or was so intimately connected with God.” “Life on the Highest Plane” by Ruth Paxson
“A close study of God’s Word seems to indicate that to Lucifer had been given dominion over the earth and its surrounding atmosphere, i.e., the atmospheric heaven. The title “Anointed Cherub” seems to indicate the fact that not only was he a tributary ruler, or prince, but that God had created him to magnify His holiness and exult His Name throughout the universe. The expression, “The workmanship of thy tabrets and thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created,” would cause us to believe that he was to lead the great anthem of praise to the Creator throughout the universe.” “God’s Plan of Redemption” by Mary E. McDonough
“That he also had some relationship to and power over God’s created universe given to him by God Himself is seen in the two titles, “the prince of this world” (John 14:30) and “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2).
That he had been given a high position of trust to which he had been a traitor is very certain. He was a prince over a kingdom for three times the Lord Jesus called him “the prince of this world,” (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11 ASV) and when he took the Lord into a high mountain and offered Him all the kingdoms of the world with their glory Jesus did not dispute his claim to their disposal. (Matt 4:8-9)
But with all Satan’s perfection and power, he was still a created being, and, as such, he must be subservient to his Creator and remain dependent and obedient. Scripture, however, from beginning to end reveals Satan as God’s archenemy. He is an open and avowed rebel. He is not a subject of the kingdom of light but is a sovereign over the kingdom of darkness.” “Life on the Highest Plane”
to be continued…
We praise You, O Lord, that You have given us Your Word, and You have revealed the truth to us.
In Him,
