All That Jesus Taught-Lesson 21

In this continuation of the All That Jesus Taught study, this message explores Matthew 6 and Jesus’ command that giving, prayer, and fasting must be done in secret before God rather than to gain honor from men. It contrasts Old Covenant practices such as public tithing with New Covenant principles of cheerful, voluntary, proportionate giving (2 Corinthians 9; 1 Corinthians 16:2). The teaching exposes the danger of “dead works” (Hebrews 6:1; Hebrews 9:14), meaningless repetition in prayer, and praying without faith. Emphasizing scriptures such as Matthew 5:20, Matthew 6:1–18, Romans 6:14, 1 John 1:7, Psalm 66:18, and Psalm 103, the message calls believers to purity of motive, secret devotion, repentance from dead works, and faith-filled prayer that seeks the Father’s reward rather than human applause.
