All That Jesus Taught-Lesson 27

We continue the study of “All That Jesus Taught” by examining Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:7–12, where He commands believers to ask, seek, and knock. The Sermon on the Mount presents a standard of righteousness that appears impossible for human beings to fulfill—freedom from anger, lust, love of money, and hypocrisy. However, Jesus reveals that what is impossible with man becomes possible with God (Matthew 19:26). Believers must therefore seek divine power through persistent prayer. Jesus teaches that many Christians fail to receive spiritual victory because they ask primarily for material blessings rather than for holiness and transformation. Through passages such as Luke 11:13, Luke 18:1, and James 4:2, Scripture emphasizes that God willingly gives the Holy Spirit and spiritual power to those who earnestly ask, seek, and knock. Persistent prayer enables believers to overcome sin, serve others through the gifts of the Spirit, and reflect God’s goodness. This leads to the practical application of the “Golden Rule” (Matthew 7:12): because God has been good to us, we are called to treat others with the same kindness, forgiveness, and grace.
